ANKARA – After Turkey’s opposition bloc lost the May 2023 presidential elections, İYİ Party fell into a spiral of infighting and resignations that shook the leadership of Meral Akşener, as we reported last fall.
Since then, few people have been optimistic about the party’s prospects in the March 31 local elections.
But the İYİ Party is still in the game after standing firm on a decision to run “assertive candidates” in İstanbul and Ankara, which were nominated today, Jan. 24.
